Coloring you hair before your wedding can be stressful. This is one of the biggest days of your life and you want everything to be perfect, especially your hair!
When you go in for your next hair color service, speak with your stylist about a few tried and true tips I've learned over the years.
Refresh your color two weeks prior to the wedding day.
Whether you are going in for just a root touch up, or some simple subtle highlights, your color no doubt should look fabulous upon leaving the salon. However, different lighting shows off different tones, and even though you may not have changed up your color at all, sometimes it is hard to pick up the exact hair strands, causing an overall different look. Most colors look even better within 5-7 days after your hairs natural oils have blended in and you've washed it about once.
The same goes for a cut! It feels so nice to get all of the dead ends and breakage off, but what a lot of us forget is how all of the sudden how blunt the bottom becomes. Give that about a week and it will soften, looking better than ever!
Change your hair color a year before the big day!
If you are anything like myself, over the course of your life you most likely have tested the waters out on different hair colors. This is totally great and fun, but if you are going from blonde to brunette, the color change can still be a bit drastic.
Give yourself plenty of time, so if you completely hate it, or the color tones are not right for you, you have time to change it, all the while keeping your hair nice and healthy. That is our main goal as hairstylists!
The order of things does matter! A new sassy look calls for a cut... THEN color.
If you are wanting to change up your color, it is best to cut the hair first. Different haircuts have different cutting techniques, and you will want to place the color properly throughout your new cut to accentuate it!
Bring a little zing to the front!
If you like highlights, talk with your hairdresser about throwing in a few brighter pieces to the front. In pictures, the tone difference will add some great dimension, along with brightening up your face!
Frost yourself, and get glazed!
A glaze is going to be a demi-permanent color lasting about 4-6 weeks, and a process that can take anywhere form 5-20 minutes. Glazes overall make the hair look new, shiny, and bright, and can sometimes even blend out a grey hair or two. Shine will look great on camera!
Protect your color.
After you go through all of this work to get that perfect color, make sure you are taking care of it the right way with professional grade products! Use a color guard shampoo and conditioner, as well as a heat protectant spray.
Until next time my friends, stay gorgeous.
